Liz and Kaia and I decided to go for a walk this afternoon, but we didn’t know where we were going. We ended up walking from our place in the Quarter, up St. Charles Avenue, stopping for ice cream in the park, grabbing some food at the Riverbend, and then walking back down St. Charles. In our roughly twelve-mile hike, the coolest thing we probably saw was not the view of the Mississippi, nor the 100-year anniversary party going on at Loyola University, but this random couple in the open first-floor window of this building, dancing to no music in casual shorts and t-shirts.
A Tumblr acquaintance recently suggested his followers read a great article on Slate.com about walking and I would encourage the same. It’s amazing how enjoyable a simple walk can be. Spending tonight walking the length of St. Charles with two of my favorite beings on the planet was the best night I’ve had in a long time. I feel that the experience brought the three of us closer to each other, and also to the city that we live in. And burning the calories probably did me no harm whatsoever.
