Here’s wishing our mothers, and all mothers, a Happy Mother’s Day from Pirate’s Alley.

WEIRD SIDENOTE: Liz still calls her mom “Mommy.” (And so does Rich.)

“I swear, I’m going to tackle the alley this weekend, Honey,” said the man on Dauphine Street.

Some idiot left her two little malnourished Boston Terriers locked in her blue, 90s-model Chevy Cavalier while she went and did godknowswhat. One of them got his head stuck in the window before finally squeezing out and running around Burgundy Street. That’s when Kaia and Liz and I walked up on the situation. Some concerned passersby stopped to help us get the other dog out of the car, get them some water and then we called the cops. The passersby took the dogs home. We did our good deed for the day. Now all that’s left to do is feel sorry for the kid whose car seat that is in the car.

It’s spring! I know because if I can stall long enough in the mornings now, Liz doesn’t make me run because it gets good and hot before noon. And also the flowers everywhere give it away.

As seen on the New Orleans Wax Museum’s promotional board across the street from my house. People have weddings there all the time. Seriously.

That’s a happy bride second-lining down St. Louis at 10pm. Either that or she’s a demon about to eat that dude behind her.

Parked the car in the Marigny and on my walk home through the Quarter I met a nice couple from Norway, watched a cross-dressing prostitute in a mini-skirt adjust his (?) genitalia, and then saw a man punch a van in front of my house before launching into a steady flow of exaggerated expletives directed at the full moon. It’s good to be home.

SIDENOTE: I don’t live in this house.

Running late for work, still half-asleep, pushing my old bicycle down the crowded alley toward the street while noticing my back tire is going flat. Things are shaping up to be a pretty miserable Monday morning. And then I open the gate and get a very clear reminder that I have the best girlfriend in the world.

SIDENOTE: I’m hoping our neighbors are romantic enough to not think we’re obnoxious.

Chlope and Tess are in town, celebrating Chlope’s spring break from teaching. We got all dressed up and made our way to Galatoire’s. Holy moley, the Galatoire’s Gouté appetizer hits the spot: Shrimp Remoulade, Crabmeat Maison and some sort of crawfish deliciousness.
